You are right about that cool! I was in India when this happened and the news barely registered then. Just something about a few disturbances in Gujarat. But nothing on this scale!

Very good review.when I read about the riots from alternative sources in US,cos Indian news agency;s did not cover much of it.The gruesomeness was too much ,I really had sleepless nights ,just hearing the survivor tales.But my family in India had no idea cos the Tv news did’nt cover much,n my ppl were not internet savvy then,still rely only on TV news. Unbeleiveble such barbaric acts still happen today n we r proud of shining India.

I understand that you may not have liked the presentation of the movie, but aren’t you missing the larger point here? For me the story/message was such that the rest really did not matter much.

But yes, if you feel that better packaging would work better for some, I’m all for it too.

I agree that this was a movie that was needed to be made, but the way in which it was made, made me not care about it at all.

The way it was catered to audiences at film festivals to the west of india, the way we have an American in the midst which makes it very convenient for the filmmakers to briefly ‘expound’ upon Zoroastrianism and other Indian-isms.
The acting seemed put-on, the screenplay was anything but subtle(I know the subject matter doesn’t give much in way of subtlelty, but that’s I guess what makes a great/good movie different for a good one.)

This story needs to be told and as such this film needs to be made again.

Wow! your description has encouraged me to watch this movie. Like you, I’d heard a lot about this movie and wasnt very sure if I wanted to watch it. But as you said, we have to watch it …. atleast once !

Unfortunately religious bigotry is on rise in India. Perhaps it is still only small numbers, but they are increasingly shrill and assertive, alerts about presumed insults to their religions, ready for violence and dehumanised, uncaring about real people and their sufferings. Thanks for a moving account.
